Understanding Your Menstrual Cycle

Learn about the phases of your cycle and what to expect each month.

Your menstrual cycle is more than just your period. It consists of four main phases: menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation, and luteal phase. Understanding these can help you manage symptoms and track your health more effectively.

1. Menstruation

This is when the lining of the uterus is shed. It typically lasts 3 to 7 days.

2. Follicular Phase

During this time, hormones stimulate the growth of follicles in the ovaries to prepare an egg.

3. Ovulation

An egg is released from the ovary, the peak time for fertility.

4. Luteal Phase

The body prepares for a potential pregnancy. If not pregnant, the cycle starts over.
